For nearly 25 years, Gloria Tibbs has served her community by working as a librarian, first in public libraries and now in academia. Currently she is the Organizational Development Coordinator at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she has been since 2001, Additionally, Gloria serves as the Libraries’ Diversity Liaison and works diligently to promote the principles of diversity, inclusiveness, and respect throughout the libraries, the university campus, the greater Kansas City community, and her profession. Her work as the UMKC University Libraries’ Diversity Liaison has been recognized with two campus awards, Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Diversity and the University of Missouri, Kansas City Staff Award for the Core Value: Diversity, Inclusiveness and Respect. With her colleagues, Gloria develops programming opportunities to enhance cultural understanding, celebrate diversity, and engage UMKC students and faculty and community members in non-traditional means of intellectual discovery. She is proud to play a role in connecting library users with resources, both library materials and people, which reflect the rich diversity of our community, society, and world.
